Passenger dies after mid-air disturbance on flight from Moscow to Omsk
A 38-year-old passenger died aboard a domestic flight from Moscow to Omsk on June 20 after allegedly causing a disturbance during the journey.
According to regional health officials, medical personnel were called only after the aircraft landed at Omsk Airport. Doctors pronounced the man dead upon arrival at the terminal, Caliber.Az reports via Russian media.
"The deceased man is not a resident of Omsk," the regional Health Ministry said in a statement.
Investigators have opened a criminal case on charges of causing death by negligence. The Eastern Regional Investigative Directorate of Russia's Investigative Committee for Transport said investigators are working to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident.
The passenger allegedly attacked fellow travelers with a pair of scissors and attempted to enter the cockpit during the flight. Other passengers reportedly restrained him, after which he began to feel unwell, lost consciousness, and later died.
The aircraft landed in Omsk at approximately 4:15 p.m. local time. Reports indicate the man lost consciousness and died around 3:25 p.m., while the plane was still in the air.
Authorities have not yet released the official cause of death. The investigation remains ongoing.
