Patience over progress: Russian official sets realistic tone for Riyadh talks
Russian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Maria Zakharova has addressed the ongoing negotiations in Riyadh, urging caution in expectations for immediate breakthroughs.
While acknowledging that significant work is underway, Zakharova stressed that the closed-door talks involve intricate deliberations across multiple fronts, emphasizing that the process is complex and not conducive to swift results, Caliber.Az reports citing Russian media.
“These are negotiations that occur behind closed doors. It is important not to anticipate immediate breakthroughs but to recognize that substantial work is being carried out in various directions,” Zakharova stated.
Zakharova further highlighted the necessity of maintaining focus on the objectives and goals of the Special Military Operation, as defined by the Russian Federation. Despite the ongoing discussions, she underscored that the core diplomatic priorities remain aligned with Russia’s established strategic aims.
In a separate development, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov offered additional details regarding the nature of the talks. He revealed that the discussions are primarily focused on a specific set of technical issues, with numerous complex aspects of the broader settlement still requiring negotiation. Among the topics on the table, Peskov highlighted the vital issue of ensuring the safety of navigation in the Black Sea, reflecting ongoing concerns regarding regional stability.
Meanwhile, talks between Russian and US representatives in Riyadh have extended for over six hours, with the discussions taking place behind closed doors. Negotiators paused for two breaks before resuming their consultations. The extended duration and confidential nature of the talks suggest that the discussions are addressing sensitive issues with potential far-reaching consequences.
As the negotiations continue, Ukrainian representatives remain in Riyadh, awaiting the outcome of the US-Russian talks.
The ongoing talks between the US and Russia are viewed as pivotal in shaping future diplomatic efforts and could have significant implications for the broader geopolitical landscape. The outcome of these high-stakes negotiations remains closely watched by all parties involved.
