Pentagon chief praises productive talks with Chinese counterpart
US Secretary of War Pete Hegseth spoke positively about the outcomes following his recent talks with China’s Defence Minister, Admiral Dong Jun.
“I just spoke to President Trump, and we agree — the relationship between the United States and China has never been better,” Hegseth wrote on X, per Caliber.Az.
He noted that following President Trump’s “historic” meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping in South Korea, he himself held “equally positive” talks with Dong Jun in Malaysia.
According to the Pentagon chief, the two sides discussed key issues again the previous evening, reaffirming their commitment to strengthening peace, stability, and constructive bilateral relations.
“[Minister of National Defense] Admiral Dong and I agree that peace, stability, and good relations are the best path for our two great and strong countries,” Hegseth emphasized. “As President Trump said, his historic 'G2 meeting' set the tone for everlasting peace and success for the US and China. The Department of War will do the same — peace through strength, mutual respect, and positive relations.”
The US secretary also announced an agreement with his Chinese counterpart to establish communication channels between the two militaries to prevent conflicts and reduce tensions, announcing that more meetings on that matter will be coming soon.
