Pentagon confirms death toll of US troops in Iran conflict reaches 19

The number of US military personnel killed during the conflict with Iran has risen to 19, according to updated figures published on a dedicated Pentagon portal.

The Defence Department reported that 14 service members were killed in combat operations during Operation Epic Fury. Five other fatalities, including the latest one, are listed under the “Overseas Contingency Operations” category. The US State Department announced the completion of Operation Epic Fury in early May. Despite strikes continuing, the operation was never officially resumed.

According to Pentagon data, 820 US service members also sustained injuries of varying severity during the conflict with Iran.

The Washington Post, citing sources, revealed that the latest fatality was a female Army officer who developed health problems while flying to the Middle East. The exact cause of death was not specified.

Earlier, five US officials had told The Washington Post that the number of US military personnel killed in the Middle East was higher, putting the toll at at least 22. US Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth later said the figures were inaccurate.
