Pezeshkian hails memorandum with US as key to Iran's future foreign policy

03 August 2026 08:34

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian said the memorandum signed between Tehran and Washington has the backing of members of the Islamic Consultative Assembly (Majlis) and will become a key pillar of the country's foreign policy.

“The signed memorandum is the result of the collective wisdom of the members of the Islamic Consultative Assembly, and all of them support this document. I believe this agreement will become a key element of our foreign relations in the future.  We must strive to ensure that the other side abides by what it has signed. The security of our country, the region, and our allies will be strengthened thanks to this memorandum,” Pezeshkian wrote on X.

The United States and Iran agreed to a ceasefire in April before signing a Pakistan-brokered memorandum of understanding in June aimed at ending hostilities and paving the way for a lasting peace agreement.

The agreement, however, unravelled last month after the United States launched a 13-day bombing campaign against Iran over attacks on vessels in the Strait of Hormuz that Washington attributed to Tehran. Iran responded with missile and drone strikes targeting Gulf countries hosting US military assets.
