Pezeshkian: Iran will not give up its right to nuclear technology

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian said Tehran has no intention of developing nuclear weapons but will not relinquish its right to peaceful nuclear technology for economic and social development.

Addressing the UN General Assembly in New York, Pezeshkian said questions surrounding Iran’s nuclear program should not be resolved through military means, Caliber.Az reports, citing Iranian media.

“This is an issue that can be resolved not on the battlefield, but through a mutual agreement that guarantees the rights of the Iranian people and the peaceful nature of the program,” he said.

Pezeshkian stressed that Iran would not accept being deprived of peaceful nuclear knowledge, highlighting its applications in medicine, agriculture, industry and sustainable energy.

“Nuclear technology is also an undeniable right of the Iranian people for the development of medicine, agriculture, industry, and sustainable energy. Iran’s clear position is: ‘No to nuclear weapons, and no to being deprived of nuclear knowledge,’” he said.

He also addressed Iran’s defensive capabilities, saying they are intended solely to deter aggression.

“Iran’s defensive capabilities are solely intended to deter any form of aggression, and the country will not seek permission from any power to defend itself,” Pezeshkian said.

On regional security, the Iranian president said it depends on cooperation and strong ties among neighboring states. He also criticized sanctions against Iran, arguing that they are unacceptable while other countries use the Strait of Hormuz to transport weapons and fuel regional crises.
