Plane skids off runway at Russia's Norilsk Airport, no injuries reported

02 January 2025 11:03

An Airbus 321A aircraft of Siberia Airlines, arriving from Moscow, skidded off the runway at Norilsk International Airport earlier on January 2.

The incident occurred around 08:00 local time (04:00 Moscow time) as the aircraft was turning near the taxiway following its landing, Caliber.Az reports via Russian media.

The aircraft, which had 79 passengers on board, left the runway during the turn. Fortunately, no injuries have been reported, and emergency services responded to the scene immediately. The aircraft has since been temporarily grounded pending further investigation.

A reserve aircraft has been arranged for the return flight to Moscow, which is now scheduled to depart at 15:30 local time (11:30 Moscow time).

The West Siberian Transport Prosecutor’s Office has launched an investigation to determine the cause of the incident. No major disruptions to other flights at the airport have been reported. Authorities continue to monitor the situation.
