PM: Armenia todevelop new geological map with US support
Armenia will work with the United States to create a new geological map of the country as part of cooperation in the field of critical minerals and rare earth resources, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said on May 28.
Speaking during a press briefing, Pashinyan referred to a document signed during the recent visit of U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio to Yerevan concerning cooperation in the mining and processing of critical minerals and rare earth elements, Caliber.Az reports, citing Armenian media.
According to the Armenian prime minister, the strategic importance of such resources has grown significantly in recent decades due to developments in technology and industry.
“The aforesaid sector has changed significantly in recent years, and those minerals that were of purely geological interest 40-50 years ago are now gaining enormous importance in the economy, artificial intelligence, and space technology,” Pashinyan said.
He added that modern technologies are increasingly being used in geological exploration.
“Now they don’t always drill the subsoil. They scan the layers of the soil with the help of space technologies. In essence, it is about the creation of a new geological map of Armenia with the assistance of the US,” the premier explained.
