PM: Garegin II must step down to uphold justice in Armenia
Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan has stated that the agenda to remove Ktrich Nersisyan, also known as Garegin II, from his position as First See must be implemented as soon as possible.
Speaking at the 7th congress of the ruling Civil Contract party, Pashinyan emphasised that it would be preferable if Nersisyan stepped down voluntarily, Caliber.Az reports via Armenian media.
“We must implement the agenda to free the First See from Ktrich Nersisyan. Ktrich Nersisyan must go. The sooner, the better. It would be better if he left of his own accord and by his own decision,” Pashinyan said.
Addressing the issue of emissaries and diaspora funds, the Prime Minister clarified that the legal aspects of such matters are not under the party’s consideration. He stressed that Armenian billionaires’ contributions should be managed responsibly, in line with regulations, and should not exceed established limits.
“The Republic of Armenia is not your yacht or your plane, so you cannot say: ‘Wrap it up — we'll take it,’” Pashinyan remarked, warning that the state will take measures to protect its integrity and ensure accountability.
Pashinyan also addressed the situation regarding imprisoned archbishops, underscoring the need for the state to respond in accordance with the law.
“It is difficult for us to see that the archbishops are in prison. You yourselves know what statements were made, but the state is obliged to respond appropriately — the law and justice must not be ignored. The Republic of Armenia will continue to act in accordance with this logic,” he said.
He concluded by reassuring party members and citizens that law and justice in Armenia will be upheld.
