PM Kobakhidze: Georgia has become reliable UN partner

09 December 2025 15:28

Georgia has signed a new cooperation agreement with the United Nations on sustainable development for the period 2026–2030.

Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze told local media that the five-year framework lays the foundation for future collaboration, balancing national priorities with the spirit of the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals, Caliber.Az reports per Georgian media.

He added that, despite global economic and geopolitical challenges, Georgia has transformed over recent years into a country that not only receives international assistance but also serves as a reliable partner and model for others.

Over the past few years, Georgia has demonstrated strong economic resilience, despite regional and global challenges. The IMF reported in mid‑2025 that the country’s real GDP growth averaged over 9 per cent annually since 2021, with public debt dropping to roughly 36 per cent of GDP. Recent official statistics show GDP rose by 6.4 per cent in September 2025 compared with the previous year, with a preliminary 7.7 per cent growth for the first nine months of 2025.

Georgia has also advanced a sustainable development agenda. The World Bank highlighted the country’s focus on green energy and climate‑smart agriculture, while the Georgia Green Growth Strategy (G3S) aims to integrate environmental sustainability with economic resilience and social equity. Key initiatives include renewable energy expansion, energy-efficient infrastructure, and climate-resilient agricultural reforms.

Simultaneously, digital infrastructure, transport, and private-sector growth, especially in renewables, fintech, and logistics, are targeted to boost long-term competitiveness. Social investments, including education and healthcare reforms under the 2022–2030 national strategy, aim to improve equity and human capital, aligning with the UN Sustainable Development Goals.
