PM Orban says Russian gas sanctions will have catastrophic consequences for Hungary

If sanctions are imposed on Russian gas and nuclear energy supplies, it will have tragic consequences for Hungary, the republic's Prime Minister Viktor Orban said.

He made the remark speaking on the December 2 morning on-air of Kossuth radio.

According to him, Budapest will seek to prevent such a move by Brussels.

He noted that the European Union has already imposed restrictions on the purchase of oil from Russia, and discussions are underway to impose a ban on Russian gas and sanctions against Russian nuclear power.

"This would have tragic consequences for Hungary, so we must be exempted from such a decision," the Hungarian prime minister said.

He assured that the Hungarian government would "fight to protect its interests."
