PM Pashinyan hopes for €2.6 billion in prompt EU assistance to Armenia
Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan hopes that the EU will speed up the process of providing assistance worth €2.6 billion to the country.
He made the statement in an interview with the Czech newspaper Respekt.
The prime minister recalled that during his visit to Yerevan, European Council President Charles Michel vowed that the EU would provide financial assistance of 2.6 billion euros to Armenia within the framework of the Eastern Partnership programme.
"We would like this process to go a little faster," Pashinyan said.
He noted that the EU’s perception has recently changed in Armenian society and its image has improved, and this is primarily due to the structure's decision to send an observer mission to the country’s border.
According to him, this gave people a chance to understand that the EU cares about Armenia's security.
The prime minister also stressed that the EU is Armenia's main partner in implementing democratic reforms.
He also pointed to the programme being implemented jointly with the EU to set up a police patrol service. This year, Armenia expects to receive a new batch of Skoda cars for the police.
