PM Pashinyan proposes plan to oust Catholicos of All Armenians
Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan has unveiled a controversial plan aimed at removing the Catholicos of All Armenians from his position.
PM Pashinyan made a post on his official Facebook page in this regard, Caliber.Az reports.
The proposed plan begins with the removal of Garegin II, the current Catholicos, from the Mother See. Pashinyan outlines an intention to reform the Statute of the Armenian Apostolic Church (AAC), describing the current document as overly complex and proposing a new version that would be “secular, concise, and understandable for all.”
Following the approval of this revised Charter, Pashinyan envisions holding elections for the position of Catholicos. The process would include a thorough verification of the credentials and bona fides of all candidates; however, the Prime Minister did not provide specific details regarding the criteria or mechanisms for this vetting.
