Poland boosts production of Piorun portable anti-aircraft missile system
Poland’s defence conglomerate PGZ (Polska Grupa Zbrojeniowa) plans to increase annual production of the Piorun man-portable air defence system (MANPADS) from the current 1,300 units to 2,600 by 2029.
Poland currently supplies Piorun MANPADS to Norway, the United States, Estonia, Latvia and Moldova, Caliber.Az reports via Rzeczpospolita.
The Polish army purchased 600 launchers and 3,500 missiles for them.
The Piorun MANPADS is capable of engaging aerial targets such as helicopters at a range of 6 km.
Production of the Piorun MANPADS began at the Mesko plant, part of PGZ, in 2019, when annual output was 300 units.
The Piorun is a Polish man-portable air-defence system, designed to destroy low-flying aircraft, airplanes, helicopters and unmanned aerial vehicles.
