Poland extends Belarus border buffer zone until August 2026
Polish authorities have extended the buffer zone introduced in June 2024 along the border with Belarus for another 90 days, until August 31, 2026.
“Minister of the Interior and Administration Marcin Kierwiński signed a regulation extending the buffer zone from June 3 to August 31, 2026,” the Polish Interior Ministry wrote on X, TASS reports.
The buffer zone, established by Polish authorities along the Belarusian border in June 2024, covers a 60.67-kilometre section within the operational areas of border posts in Narewka, Belovezh, Dubice-Cerkiewne and Cheremcha.
The depth of the zone along most of its length (44.55 km) extends 200 metres from the border line. On a 16.12-kilometre section located within protected natural reserves, its depth reaches approximately 2 kilometres.
