Poland scrambles fighter jets following Russian attack on Ukraine
Poland has scrambled fighter jets in response to a Russian air strike on Ukraine, the country’s Operational Command of the Armed Forces said on December 6.
The decision came after a large-scale Russian attack on Kyiv and the surrounding region on the night of December 5, involving missiles and drones, Caliber.Az reports via Polish media.
Ukrainian authorities reported at least three people injured and activated air raid alerts.
Shortly after 04:00 local time, Poland’s Operational Command announced on X that its military aircraft had taken to the skies in a preventive move to safeguard Polish airspace.
“As per standard procedures, the Operational Command deployed all necessary forces and assets. Fighter jets were scrambled, and ground-based air defence and radar systems were placed on full alert,” the statement said.
The Command stressed that the measures are precautionary, focusing on the protection of airspace, particularly in areas near the threatened regions. “Our forces remain ready for immediate action and continue to monitor the situation closely,” it added.
