Polish border guards seriously injured during extradition operation in Tbilisi
Two Polish border guards were seriously injured in Tbilisi, Georgia, during an attack while escorting individuals slated for extradition, according to RMF24.
The guards were overseeing the return of Georgian and Pakistani nationals whom Poland had ordered to be extradited. The operation was carried out in coordination with the European border agency Frontex.
During the procedure, an assailant attacked the guards with metal bars and a knife. It remains unclear whether the attacker was among those being escorted or a third party.
“Two of our employees were hospitalised with serious head injuries. One underwent surgery, and the other is currently in the operating room,” said Polish Border Guard spokesman Andrzej Jóźwiak.
He added that local authorities in Tbilisi are conducting an investigation, noting, “For now, this is all we can report.”
