Polish FM cautions against simplistic views of Trump’s potential presidency
Polish Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski has urged caution against a simplistic interpretation of the potential impact of Donald Trump’s presidency on US-Poland relations and international issues.
Sikorski addressed concerns regarding Trump’s possible victory in the upcoming US presidential election, emphasizing that the situation is far from straightforward, Caliber.Az reports via foreign media.
When asked about the future of US support for Ukraine under a Trump administration, Sikorski highlighted the complexity of the issue. He noted that Trump's record on certain matters, such as imposing sanctions on the Nord Stream pipeline and authorizing the provision of anti-tank missiles to Ukraine prior to the conflict, complicates any binary assessment of his stance compared to his rivals.
Sikorski expressed uncertainty about Trump’s future actions, stating, “We just don’t know what he will do.” Despite this unpredictability, Sikorski asserted the importance of maintaining a cooperative relationship with the US administration, regardless of the election outcome.
He also outlined the distinct approaches Poland adopts in its engagement with US political parties, noting that interactions with Democrats tend to focus on shared values, while discussions with Republicans often center on strategic and business matters.
