Political analyst: Armenia contradicts US policy in region by its existence
Armenian political analyst Stepan Danielyan has said that Armenia contradicts the US policy in this region by its existence.
Danielyan made the remarks while discussing the topic “Impact of the ongoing processes in the world on Armenia”, Caliber.Az reports citing the Armenian media.
The analyst was commenting on Assistant Secretary for European and Eurasian Affairs Dr. Karen Donfried’s statement that “assistance which is rendered to Azerbaijan is in line with the interests of the US national security”.
Political analyst Argishti Kiviryan also noted that Donfried openly stated that "the main goal is Iran, the second goal is to prevent the creation of the Russian-Iranian alliance and routes in this region".
“It is obvious that as a result of recent developments, Russia has found itself in such a position that it needs new roads, in particular, through this region to India. Russia has two ways to get to India through Iran, one through Armenia, the other one through Azerbaijan” he said.
“The US clearly says that it will not allow this, so it supports Azerbaijan. This will lead to new developments,” Kiviryan noted.
In turn, Danielyan, who joined the discussions, added that the protection of the border between Armenia and Iran by Russian border guards has become a dangerous phenomenon.
“In fact, Armenia is against this policy because it has good relations with Iran, which are getting closer and are already becoming military relations, and there are Russian border guards there. In this regard, Donfried said that Armenia contradicts the US policy in this region by its existence,” Danielyan added.
