Political analyst calls Armenia "strategic cargo" for West, not true ally
Armenian political analyst Suren Surenyants has asserted that his country cannot be considered a true ally of the West, but rather a "strategic cargo" for Western interests.
Surenyants made these remarks during a press conference, where he discussed Armenia's geopolitical position and its relations with the West, Caliber.Az reports citing Armenian media.
According to Surenyants, the West is unable to apply significant pressure on Türkiye and Azerbaijan regarding Armenia, due to the influential role of Iran in the region. The political analyst also addressed the recently proposed ten-point document outlining the strategic partnership between Armenia and the United States, questioning its actual substance.
"Let them publish the document and show where the US obligations for military intervention are outlined. There is nothing of the sort. The only promises made are to optimize the Armenian army and conduct joint exercises, and nothing more," Surenyants remarked.
This comment comes as Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan confirmed that representatives from Armenia and the United States are preparing for a meeting to discuss the strategic partnership document. Mirzoyan highlighted that an agreement has already been made to elevate the level of strategic dialogue to a full strategic partnership.
