Politico: Vance could drastically scale back US military presence abroad
U.S. Vice President J.D. Vance may significantly scale back America’s military presence overseas and is unlikely to support Washington’s role as the “world’s policeman.”
The American magazine Politico has published an article examining Vance’s foreign policy views. He is widely regarded as one of the leading contenders for the 2028 presidential election.
The article notes that many foreign diplomats consider him more ideologically driven than current U.S. President Donald Trump and expect him to pursue a more isolationist course.
“I don’t think he’s going to swing back to America being the principal donor of aid and security across the planet,” Politico quotes one European diplomat as saying.
Political analyst Sumantra Maitra, described as an ally of Vance, emphasised that the Republican is “more determined about shifting the grand strategy of the U.S” and would not allow the country to remain the “world’s policeman.”
According to Maitra, Vance is also focused on strengthening the American economy, particularly to support the working class and rebuild the country’s industrial base.
The next U.S. presidential election is scheduled for November 2028. Vance, 41, is considered one of the key contenders for the Republican Party’s nomination.
