Powerful storm disrupts flights at airports of Istanbul, Türkiye

A powerful storm swept through Istanbul on the afternoon of July 24, temporarily disrupting operations at the city's airports.

Several flights bound for Istanbul's airports, including Istanbul Airport on the European side and Sabiha Gökçen Airport on the Asian side, were forced to circle in holding patterns before receiving clearance to land, Caliber.Az reports, citing Turkish media.

The severe weather also caused flooding in several parts of the city, particularly on the European side.

Strong winds uprooted trees and tore roofs off residential buildings, while fallen trees damaged parked vehicles on numerous streets.

No reports of more serious incidents had been received as of the latest update.
