Ilham Aliyev: Opening of Iğdır-Nakhchivan pipeline is a key moment in Türkiye-Azerbaijan brotherhood
President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev marked the inauguration of the Iğdır-Nakhchivan gas pipeline, calling it an important day in the history of both Türkiye and Azerbaijan's enduring friendship and brotherhood.
“Today is an important day in the history of Türkiye-Azerbaijan friendship and brotherhood. The opening of the Iğdır-Nakhchivan gas pipeline is being celebrated,” President Aliyev said during the opening of the gas pipeline via video link, Caliber.Az reports per local media.
Reflecting on the development, he also recalled the groundwork laid for the project, noting, “As mentioned here, one and a half years ago, together with the esteemed President, we laid the foundation stone of this gas pipeline in Nakhchivan, and today, we are participating in this beautiful event.”
The Azerbaijani President affirmed that the new pipeline will significantly contribute to the energy security of Nakhchivan, ensuring a reliable energy supply for the region.
“The project we are inaugurating today will ensure Nakhchivan's energy security,” said President Aliyev, adding that the gas transported from Azerbaijan through Türkiye will meet the region’s energy needs, marking a significant milestone in the development of regional infrastructure and cooperation between the two countries.
In his address, President Aliyev emphasised the extensive collaboration between Türkiye and Azerbaijan, pointing out that the two nations are currently involved in several major projects.
"Today, Türkiye and Azerbaijan – two brotherly countries – are implementing major projects. Oil and gas pipeline projects such as Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan, Baku-Tbilisi-Erzurum, and TANAP have not only united our countries but also reshaped Eurasia’s energy map," he said. The Azerbaijani leader highlighted that the gas transported from Azerbaijan via Türkiye plays a crucial role in ensuring the energy security of many countries in the region.
President Aliyev also reflected on the broader impact of the two countries’ energy and transport initiatives, specifically the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway.
“Our jointly implemented energy projects have also paved the way for the realization of major transportation initiatives,” said President Aliyev.
"Today, the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway, which connects Türkiye and Azerbaijan, provides significant advantages. This transportation route holds great importance and benefits not only for our countries but also for a wider region, especially in uniting the Turkic world. Of course, the unity and brotherhood between Türkiye and Azerbaijan are a great contribution to the entire Turkic world," he remarked.
