President Aoun: Lebanon to enter bilateral talks with Israel
Lebanese President Joseph Aoun has announced that Lebanon will enter bilateral negotiations aimed at ending ongoing hostilities with Israel.
Aoun said the talks would be conducted by a delegation led by Ambassador Lashiber Simon Karem. He emphasised that the decision to pursue negotiations is intended to bring an end to the conflict, secure the withdrawal of Israeli forces from southern Lebanon, and enable the deployment of the Lebanese army along the country’s internationally recognised southern border, Caliber.Az reports per Israeli media.
“The decision to negotiate is aimed at ending hostilities, ending the Israeli occupation of southern Lebanon, and deploying the Lebanese army to the internationally recognized southern border,” Aoun said.
He described the upcoming talks as a critical turning point, framing them as a choice between continued conflict—with its humanitarian, social, economic, and sovereignty-related consequences—or a negotiated path toward stability.
“I have chosen negotiations and hope that we will succeed in saving Lebanon,” he added.
Further details about the timing and venue of the negotiations have not yet been disclosed.
