President: Armenia should find opportunities for peaceful coexistence in region
Armenian President Vahagn Khachatryan has said that Armenia was optimistic because it really wanted a peace treaty to be signed with Azerbaijan.
“Indeed, not only Armenia, but all regional countries, cannot succeed if neighboring countries do not live peacefully in this territory. I mean Turkey, Iran, Azerbaijan, Georgia, and Armenia,” Khachatryan said in an interview with DW while answering a question about the trilateral talks in Brussels.
The president noted that Armenia should find opportunities for peaceful coexistence in the region.
“Now this issue is real as there are mediators. We should use these opportunities,” he said.
President Khachatryan reminded that the third meeting between Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan was held, and this gives hope that the EU wants to complete this process, that is, a peace treaty between Armenia and Azerbaijan to be signed.
“Of course, it will be a difficult issue, because the conflict has been going on since the 1990s. However, the main thing is that both sides have a desire and there are people willing to help both sides come to an agreement,” the Armenian president said.
“The main thing is that people should prevent any military actions. After the signing of the peace treaty, an era of joint peaceful coexistence should begin.”
