President Sandu: Moldova must prepare for prolonged energy crisis
Moldova’s President, Maia Sandu, has called for heightened preparedness for a potential energy crisis due to ongoing conflicts in the Middle East.
President Sandu emphasised that, despite all measures undertaken, Moldova remains exposed to potential energy shocks, Caliber.Az reports via foreign media.
"We have analysed potential scenarios: one thing is if a price and energy crisis lasts a few weeks, another if it continues for months,” Sandu told journalists following a meeting of the Supreme Security Council.
"We must prepare for the worst-case scenarios."
As a precautionary measure, the Moldovan government introduced a 60-day state of heightened readiness in the energy sector on March 4.
This includes restrictions on the export of petroleum products and measures to prioritise domestic electricity consumption during peak hours, aimed at ensuring supply to consumers and maintaining stability in the national power system.
Authorities are also investigating reports of companies limiting fuel sales amid the emerging energy crisis.
