Presidential candidate pledges unyielding stance against Iran's nuclear aspirations As US implements new sanctions
Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris has reaffirmed her commitment to preventing Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons, declaring that she will take any necessary actions to safeguard American interests if elected president.
Speaking during a conference call with members of the US Jewish community, Harris emphasized her preference for diplomatic solutions while leaving all options on the table, Caliber.Az reports via Russian media.
“Make no mistake: as president, I will always take any action necessary to protect American forces and interests from Iran and Iranian-backed terrorists without hesitation,” she stated, underscoring the urgency of the situation.
In a parallel effort, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken announced the introduction of new sanctions aimed at curbing Iran's financing for its nuclear program and missile development.
During his remarks, Blinken explained that these measures are part of a broader strategy to cut off revenue sources for the Iranian regime.
“Today we are taking steps to cut off the flow of revenue that the Iranian regime uses to finance its nuclear program and missile development,” he said.
According to Blinken, Washington also seeks to limit Iran's support for its partners and the continuation of conflict in the Middle East.
Meanwhile, Donald Trump’s campaign has made extraordinary requests for heightened security measures as the election approaches, including military aircraft for his travel, expanded flight restrictions over his residences and events, ballistic glass in seven battleground states, and military vehicles for transport.
These requests emerged after briefings indicated ongoing Iranian plots against Trump, prompting his advisors to express concern over potential threats, including drones and missiles.
Campaign manager Susie Wiles communicated dissatisfaction with the Secret Service, noting that a recent public event was canceled due to a lack of personnel, limiting Trump to a small room with reporters. She emphasized that inadequate protective measures hinder the campaign's planning. Representative Michael Waltz, a Trump ally, has also urged the Secret Service to consider military aircraft for Trump.
While Secret Service spokesman Anthony Guglielmi assured that Trump is receiving top-tier protection, senior officials suggested military planes are unlikely based on current intelligence. The Secret Service has already implemented temporary flight restrictions and provided advanced security assets.
The requests reflect ongoing tensions between Trump’s team and the Secret Service, especially following two assassination attempts against him. Although there is no concrete evidence linking Iran to these attempts, concerns remain heightened due to Iran's history of threatening actions against US officials.
Former CIA official Norman Roule noted Iran's challenges in executing plots within the US, leading them to rely on third-party operatives. Amid these security concerns, Trump has started to publicly reference these threats, emphasizing the danger he perceives, particularly following a near-miss incident during a rally. As the campaign progresses, security remains a top priority for both Trump and US officials.
