Presidential rep: Azerbaijan to fulfil more “smart village” projects in liberated lands

06 September 2023 13:08

Emin Huseynov, Special Representative of the Azerbaijani President in the liberated territories (excluding Shusha) in the Karabakh economic region, has said that the country will resettle more families by the end of 2026.

Under the I State Program of Great Return Azerbaijan will resettle 34,600 families to the liberated lands, Huseynov told Azertag.

A precise list of cities, villages, and settlements to be restored has been compiled in this respect, he added

One of the most important components of this process is the construction of "smart villages" and "smart cities". The first such village, Agali, has been established and handed over to the residents in the Zangilan district, and families are already living there. The next such village - Dovletyarli - will be built in the Fuzuli district at the expense of Azerbaijan’s own funds.

According to the presidential delegate, design work in Dovletyarli village is nearing completion. Land development will begin within a month. The state procurement process has already begun.

"The third such project will be realized in Bash Garvand village of Aghdam district. Unlike the two previous projects, the design of Bash Garvand village will be carried out by specialists from the Slovak Republic. Undoubtedly, this project will be realized at the expense of the Azerbaijani state. ‘Smart’ solutions to be applied here are applied with great efficiency all over the world by Slovak specialists and engineers in the field of infrastructure. We believe that this is one of the innovations in the reconstruction process. I would like to point out that within the framework of the project, based on the Smart Village concept, it is planned to rebuild the village with a total area of 470 hectares. It is planned to resettle 5500 people at the first stage and 1170 people at the second stage. At first, 917 families will be resettled in the village, and at the next stage - 600 families," Emin Huseynov emphasized.

He added that another point that increases the importance of this project is the location of Bash Garvand village on the so-called former line of contact, on the territory heavily contaminated with mines. The Special Representative of the President expressed hope that the project in Bash Garvand village will be completed in the near future.
