Press TV: Iran launches new transit mechanism for Strait of Hormuz shipping
05 May 2026 23:35
Iran has begun implementing a new mechanism for regulating maritime transit through the Strait of Hormuz, Press TV has learned.
According to the report, ships will receive an electronic notice from the Iranian Persian Gulf Strait Authority (PGSA) outlining transit rules. Vessels will then be required to submit a route plan before being granted permission to pass through the strategic waterway.
The announcement follows a statement by Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), which claimed that commercial ships have recently stopped transiting the Strait of Hormuz.
Earlier, the US Central Command (CENTCOM) said that two commercial vessels had successfully crossed the Strait as part of ongoing operations in the region.
