09 January 2026 10:36

Mass protests continue across Iran, escalating into serious clashes. The unrest began on December 28 when traders from Tehran’s central city market took to the streets to protest a sharp fall in the national currency.

The Guardian reported that, demonstrations took place in all 31 provinces of Iran.

A building of the Islamic Republic's state broadcaster (IRIB) in Isfahan, central Iran, was set on fire on January 9, according to videos circulating on social media.

“This is the final battle, Pahlavi will return,” protesters chanted in Tehran on the night of January 8, videos sent to Iran International show.

“This year is the year of blood; Seyyed Ali (Khamenei) will be overthrown”, protestors chanted during nighttime protests in Tehran on January 8, videos sent to Iran International show.

Exiled Prince Reza Pahlavi expressed his gratitude to President Trump for reaffirming his commitment to hold Iran's regime accountable, as millions of Iranians called for their freedom while the government severed all lines of communication. "Millions of Iranians demanded their freedom tonight. In response, the regime in Iran has cut all lines of communication. It has shut down the Internet. It has cut landlines. It may even attempt to jam satellite signals," Pahlavi posted on X.

"I call on them to use all technical, financial, and diplomatic resources available to restore communication to the Iranian people so that their voice and their will can be heard and seen. Do not let the voices of my courageous compatriots be silenced," he added.
