Pundit: Armenia to be destroyed on spot if country's authorities arrest Putin

Armenian political scientist Stepan Danielyan has said that Armenia will be destroyed on the spot if the country's authorities arrest Vladimir Putin.

Danielyan made the remarks in his interview with the Armenian newspaper Hraparak commenting on the ratification of the Rome Statute, Caliber.Az reports.

"Statements that the Armenian authorities want to sign such an agreement with Russia in order not to arrest the Russians or their president are simply an attempt to evade the real issue. The problem is that Russia sees the ratification of the Rome Statute as an anti-Russian move, not because it fears Putin's arrest, but as a step towards entering the West's sphere of influence.

According to the authorities, the Rome Statute is ratified in order to punish Azerbaijan or at least to protect itself from Azerbaijan. It is very funny that the Armenian authorities think that they can protect themselves from Azerbaijan by filing a lawsuit in The Hague Court. This is absurd, nonsense. The question arises: if the statute is not useful, what is the purpose of ratification, especially since even the U.S., Russia and many other countries do not recognize the statute. What is the point of it? This question is unclear to me, the authorities should clearly state what problem they are trying to solve. I think that no self-respecting country will join the ratification of the statute," the political scientist said.
