Pundit derides Armenia's hopes for Germany's security guarantees

04 November 2023 11:48

Political analyst Hakob Badalyan has commented on the visit of German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock to Yerevan.

"German Defence Minister Pistorius told a Bundestag hearing in March 2023 that the German army would not be able to defend the country in the event of a major attack. He criticised the defence policy conducted before that," he wrote on Facebook, Caliber.Az reports.

"And now on the occasion of the German Foreign Minister's visit to Armenia, one hears and reads that Germany has almost five minutes left to become Armenia's security guarantor. Moreover, probably no one is even listening to what the German Foreign Minister is saying in Armenia. I don't know whether to laugh or cry.

Germany cannot guarantee its security without the United States. Now there will surely be people who will come and write, 'Does Putin guarantee it?' or 'Does Russia guarantee it?'. So, to save their time, I will say: of course not, dear ones, no one will guarantee Armenia's security. I said ten years ago that Russia is not a guarantor of Armenia's security, unlike many others. And today I consider it unnecessary to talk about it. Today I think it is necessary to say that no one will guarantee Armenia's security, because I see how we are now entering the field of guarantee fraud and in other geopolitical directions, rather, we are being led to a place where we will face nothing but disappointment," the political scientist wrote.
