Putin ready to declare ceasefire with Ukraine for Victory Day
Russian President Vladimir Putin has indicated readiness to declare a temporary ceasefire in the conflict with Ukraine during the Victory Day commemorations on May 9.
According to Caliber.Az, citing Russian media, the statement was made on April 29 by Kremlin aide Yuri Ushakov following a telephone conversation between Putin and U.S. President Donald Trump.
“Vladimir Putin informed his American colleague of his readiness to declare a ceasefire for the period of the Victory Day celebrations. Trump strongly supported this initiative, noting that the holiday marks our common victory over Nazism in the Second World War,” Ushakov said.
He added that Trump “positively assessed” the recent Easter ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine. Putin, in turn, told the U.S. leader that Kyiv is actively carrying out “terrorist attacks” against Russian civilians, targeting civilian infrastructure.
According to the Russian president’s aide, Moscow prefers a peaceful resolution of the conflict in Ukraine through negotiations. However, for this to happen, Zelenskyy must accept the proposals previously put forward by both Russia and the United States, Ushakov concluded.
