RAF Typhoon jets scrambled in Romania after drones detected near border
Two British Royal Air Force Eurofighter Typhoon fighter jets were scrambled overnight in Romania after a group of drones was detected near the country's border with Ukraine, Romania's Ministry of Defence said.
According to the ministry, radar systems identified a cluster of aerial signals approximately 22 kilometres northeast of the Ukrainian town of Vilkovo in the Danube Delta region during the early hours of June 22, Caliber.Az reports via Russian media.
In response, two RAF Eurofighter Typhoon aircraft stationed at Romania's 86th Air Base in Borcea as part of NATO's Air Policing mission were launched at 02:19 local time to monitor the situation.
"The aircraft took off to monitor the situation following the detection of aerial targets near Romania's eastern border," the ministry said in a statement.
