Referendum on joining Russia suspended in South Ossetia

The leader of the separatists of South Ossetia, Alan Gagloev, suspended the "decree on calling a referendum" on the region's entry into Russia.

According to RIA Novosti, he noted that "he fully supports the initiative for further integration, but instructed to hold consultations with Moscow on the entire range of issues related to this process."

Gagloev stressed that a unilateral solution to problems affecting the legitimate rights and interests of Russia is unacceptable.
