Regional culture of Azerbaijan to take centre stage in Kahramanmaraş PHOTO

Farman Gurbanli, Chief of Staff at the Azerbaijan State Housing Development Agency (MIDA), stated the cultural centre in Kahramanmaraş’s “Azerbaijan” quarter will be completed within a year and showcase the heritage of all Azerbaijani regions.

Gurbanli explained that the project was approved in December of last year, after which preparations for implementation began, Caliber.Az reports per local media.

“At the suggestion of the Turkish side, the centre will present samples of the culture of all regions of Azerbaijan,” he noted.

He also highlighted that the Azerbaijan quarter includes a total of 456 residential units and 328 non-residential facilities, covering an area of 27.6 hectares. 

“According to the plan, the quarter comprises residential buildings, an elementary school, a kindergarten, and the cultural centre. There are 68 residential buildings containing 1,194 two-, three-, and four-room apartments. To provide workplaces for residents, 1,595 non-residential (commercial) units will also be put into operation. Additionally, construction in quarters 7, 8, 11, and 12 has been completed according to the master plan, with 26 four-story residential buildings in these four quarters,” Gurbanli added.

The official noted that Azerbaijan has provided aid to support Türkiye in post-earthquake reconstruction and construction efforts. At the Turkish government’s suggestion, the area hosting the Azerbaijan Boulevard was named the “Azerbaijan Quarter.”

On February 6, 2023, powerful earthquakes measuring 7.7 and 7.6 struck Kahramanmaraş Province. The disaster affected 11 provinces and neighbouring countries, lasting 105 seconds, resulting in 53,537 deaths and over 107,000 injuries, and destroyed approximately 39,000 buildings.
