Residents uncover 180-ton “jade” stone at Issyk-Kul, Kyrgyzstan
01 February 2026 17:35
In Kyrgyzstan, local residents at Issyk-Kul have unearthed a massive stone weighing around 180 tons, which they are calling jade.
The find has become a local attraction in the village of Chon Kyzyl-Suu, Caliber.Az reports via foreign media.
Social media footage shows the stone being uncovered in an improvised manner, with part of its surface already visible above ground before excavation.
Experts note that the stone may not be true jade but rather a jadeite-like rock, similar in composition and appearance but of lower quality.
Jadeite-like rock is typically used for decorative purposes, being less translucent, often spotted, and containing cracks, distinguishing it from genuine jade.
