Reuters: Iran says US proposal is more "wishlist" than reality

06 May 2026 19:38

Iran believes that the text of a US proposal for resolving the conflict, published by the Axios news portal, is more of a “wishlist” than a realistic framework, Reuters reports.

"The Axios text is more of an American wish list than ‌a reality; Americans will not gain anything in a war they are losing that they have not gained in face-to-face negotiations," Ebrahim Rezaei, spokesperson for parliament's foreign policy and national security committee posted on X.

Meanwhile, sources in Israel told the agency that the country was not aware of any imminent breakthrough in US–Iran talks.

Instead, Israeli officials were reportedly preparing for a possible escalation of hostilities.

The one-page, 14-point memorandum of understanding (MOU) is being negotiated between Trump's envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner and several Iranian officials, both directly and through mediators, Axios wrote earlier.

In its ‌current form, the memorandum would reportedly declare an end to the war in the region and the start of a 30-day period of negotiations on a detailed agreement to open the strait, limit Iran's nuclear programme and lift U.S. sanctions.
