28 February 2026 18:16
Three sources familiar with the situation told Reuters that General Mohammad Pakpour, commander of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), and Amir Nasirzade, the country’s defence minister, were killed in Israeli airstrikes on Iranian territory early Saturday morning.
Earlier assessments from Israeli officials indicated that Pakpour, Nasirzade, and the head of Iranian intelligence were likely targeted during the operation.
The morning strikes reportedly aimed at several senior figures within Iran’s political and military leadership, including Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei and President Masoud Pezeshkian. However, the full outcomes of the attacks remain unclear.
