Reuters: US, Iran diplomats set to meet in Türkiye amid rising tensions
US Special Envoy Steve Witkoff and Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi could meet in Türkiye in the coming day, Reuters reports, citing a senior Iranian official and a Western diplomat.
A Turkish ruling party official told Reuters that Tehran and Washington have agreed to centre this week’s talks on diplomacy, potentially averting imminent US strikes.
"Diplomacy is ongoing. For talks to resume, Iran says there should not be preconditions and that it is ready to show flexibility on uranium enrichment, including handing over 400 kg of highly enriched uranium (HEU), accepting zero enrichment under a consortium arrangement as a solution," the Iranian official said.
He added that Tehran wants US military forces relocated away from its borders before the talks begin: "Now the ball is in Trump's court."
Earlier, a reliable Iranian government source revealed that President Masoud Pezeshkian has directed the start of nuclear-focused negotiations with the United States.
The source confirmed that discussions between Tehran and Washington will be strictly limited to nuclear issues.
