Reuters: Xi Jinping holds key talks with Japan, Canada, Thailand at APEC summit
The annual meeting of Asia-Pacific leaders has begun in South Korea, where Chinese President Xi Jinping took centre stage.
According to Reuters, at the APEC summit taking place in the historic city of Gyeongju, Xi Jinping held talks with the leaders of Canada, Japan, and Thailand.
His participation became pivotal after U.S. President Donald Trump left South Korea, having reached a temporary trade truce with Beijing.
The agreement suspended the introduction of new export restrictions on rare earth elements, temporarily easing tensions in global trade.
“The rougher the seas, the more we must pull together,” Xi said, calling on regional leaders to safeguard the multilateral trading system and strengthen economic cooperation.
His remarks came amid ongoing trade disputes and waning trust among the world’s leading economies.
