Romania criminalizes violations of sanctions against Russia
The Chamber of Deputies of the Romanian Parliament has approved amendments to the government’s decree on international sanctions, establishing that violating or circumventing such restrictions—including those targeting Russia—constitutes a serious criminal offense, the country's Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced.
According to the ministry, the legislation designates violations or evasion of international sanctions as a grave offense under the jurisdiction of Romania’s Directorate for Investigating Organized Crime and Terrorism (DIICOT), Caliber.Az reports.
The law also clarifies the mechanisms for inter-agency cooperation and coordination in implementing sanctions and introduces criminal liability for both individuals and legal entities that support organizations subject to sanctions.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs emphasized that these changes align Romania’s national legislation with the European Union directive on criminal liability for circumventing and breaching sanctions.
