Roscosmos: Russian satellite constellation ranks fourth in world
Roscosmos State Corporation has announced that Russia's orbital satellite constellation consists of 229 spacecraft.
“As of December 1, 2023, the domestic orbital constellation included 229 spacecraft, 163 of them for socio-economic purposes,” Roscosmos told Interfax.
According to Roscosmos, Russia ranks fourth in the world in terms of the number of spacecraft in orbit after the US, China and UK, with a big gap from the leaders.
“Russia’s share in the world orbital constellation is only about 2.5 per cent and is constantly decreasing,” the state corporation stated.
Roscosmos Director General Yuri Borisov noted that Russia “should rapidly expand its orbital constellation by improving consumer characteristics through changing the generation of spacecraft.”
