Macron urges swift Armenia-Azerbaijan peace deal in talks with PM Pashinyan VIDEO
French President Emmanuel Macron has called for the rapid signing of a peace agreement between Armenia and Azerbaijan, saying it could usher in a new era for the wider region.
In a statement published on his official X (formerly Twitter) account following a meeting with Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan in Paris on July 14, Macron reaffirmed France’s backing of Yerevan’s peace efforts, Caliber.Az reports.
"The rapid signing of a peace treaty between Armenia and Azerbaijan would allow for a new chapter to be opened for all countries and peoples of the region and beyond," Macron wrote.
The meeting, held on July 14 at the Élysée Palace, came amid ongoing international efforts to normalise relations between Baku and Yerevan following years of conflict and recent escalations over the Karabakh region.
According to Armenian media, Pashinyan briefed Macron on discussions held earlier the same day in Brussels, underlining his government’s commitment to deepening ties with the European Union.
The leaders also exchanged views on broader regional developments.
