Russia arrests man in Krasnodar on high treason allegations
Russia’s Federal Security Service (FSB) has detained a resident of the Krasnodar region on suspicion of high treason, accusing him of passing sensitive information to Ukrainian intelligence services.
In a statement, the FSB Public Relations Centre said the man, born in 1963, allegedly transmitted data to the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) regarding fuel and energy infrastructure in the Krasnodar and Stavropol regions, as well as information related to the deployment of military equipment.
According to the agency, contact with an SBU representative was allegedly established via WhatsApp, after which the suspect is said to have sent photographs and coordinates of strategic facilities, along with details of military deployments responsible for airspace security.
The FSB also alleged that the individual collected personal information about employees of a local enterprise and attempted to provide access to its corporate email system.
The Investigative Department of the FSB in the Krasnodar region has opened a criminal case on charges of high treason, defined as providing assistance to a foreign state in activities directed against Russia’s security.
The suspect has been placed under arrest.
