Russia calls for diplomacy, warns against regional conflict
Russia affirmed hope that ongoing negotiations between the United States and Iran will not spark a new military escalation in the Middle East, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said.
“We remain ready to support political and diplomatic efforts to achieve a settlement, implement possible agreements, and we hope that common sense will prevail and the region will not be drawn into a new military adventure with destructive consequences,” Zakharova said, Caliber.Az reports, citing Russian media.
Her comments came in response to US statements suggesting a possible strike on Iran if Tehran rejects Washington’s conditions.
Zakharova further warned that threats and coercion do not facilitate successful diplomacy. She emphasized that Russia sees an equal and respectful dialogue as essential for reaching mutually acceptable solutions to the Iranian nuclear issue, stating that there is no viable alternative to this approach.
