Russia cuts Georgian wine imports by more than a third

Russia reduced its imports of Georgian wine by more than a third year-on-year in May, bringing the total value of imports down to $11 million.
According to Sputnik Georgia, citing data from Georgia’s National Statistics Service, Russian companies imported Georgian wine worth $10.9 million in May, compared with $17.2 million during the same month last year.
As a result, the value of imports declined by 35.9% year-on-year.
Despite the drop in May imports, Russia remained the largest buyer of Georgian wine. Poland ranked second with imports worth $1.6 million, followed by Ukraine with $1 million.
Overall, Georgia exported wine worth $97.8 million during the first five months of 2026.
