Russia denounces Moldova’s expulsion of diplomat as part of anti-Russian agenda
Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova has criticized Moldova's decision to declare a Russian diplomat persona non grata as unfounded and antagonistic.
“The Russian side will respond appropriately to this unjustified and hostile move by the Moldovan authorities. We reserve the right to retaliate against this unwarranted decision regarding our embassy employee,” Zakharova stated, Caliber.Az reports citing the Russian media.
She condemned the action as part of a broader aggressive anti-Russian stance by the Moldovan government, accusing them of irresponsibly undermining the historically strong ties between Russia and Moldova.
“The rise in Russophobic sentiment and the creation of 'spy narratives' suggest that Chisinau has lost its ability to act reasonably and recognize the lasting significance of Russia-Moldova relations for both nations,” Zakharova remarked.
She added that Moldovan authorities declared a staff member of the Russian Embassy in Chișinău persona non grata "without any clear justification" on August 1.
