Russia develops extended-range supersonic projectile for rocket launchers

The Research and Production Association Splav has patented a supersonic projectile for multiple launch rocket systems (MLRS).

The new projectile has better aeroballistic characteristics and an increased firing range, as follows from the description of the invention to the patent, TASS reports.

“This positive effect is confirmed by flight design tests of samples of supersonic missiles made under the proposed invention,” the document states.

It is clarified that it has become possible to achieve improved projectile characteristics due to the optimal ratio of the dimensions of the fore part of the hull and aerodynamic control surfaces, as well as the cylindrical fairing and stabilizer blades and other design features.

The A. N. Ganichev Research and Production Association Splav produces over 48 shells for various uses. The company's head office is located in Tula.
