Russia develops fibre-optic spools for FPV drones, says company

29 May 2026 18:57

Russian specialists from the company “Spetstech” have developed long-range fibre-optic spools for FPV drones capable of reaching speeds of up to 160 km/h, according to the company.

The development was presented at the Startup Village forum and reported by TASS.

According to the developers, the system uses spools with long-length optical fibre windings designed to improve reliability and data transmission performance. The technology is intended for FPV (first-person view) drones and is designed to reduce vulnerability to electronic warfare systems.

The company said the fibre-optic link enables stable communication over distances of up to 50 kilometres.

It also stated that the design allows drones to reach speeds of up to 160 km/h, carry out sharp manoeuvres at speeds of up to 90 km/h with a turning radius of around three metres, and even move backwards at speeds of up to 30 km/h.

“Spetstech” is also developing ground control stations that can be adapted for different drone control systems, the company added.
